How to Measure Your Size Before Buying a Formal Dress

Finding the perfect dress is an exciting journey, but ensuring it fits like a glove is the most important step. At our studio, we believe every body is unique, which is why we offer custom sizing to make sure you look and feel stunning on your big day.
To help our tailors create a masterpiece for you, please follow this simple guide to measuring your body accurately.
Getting Ready
Before you start, here are a few tips for the most accurate results:
-
Use a cloth measuring tape: Metal tapes are for DIY projects, not dresses!
-
Wear the right undergarments: Measure while wearing the bra and shapewear you plan to wear with the dress.
-
Stand up straight: Keep your posture natural and look forward.
-
Bring a friend: It is much easier (and more accurate) if someone else pulls the tape for you.
Key Measurements to Take
1. Bust
Wrap the tape around the fullest part of your bust. Keep the tape level across your back and parallel to the floor. Make sure it isn’t too tight—you should be able to breathe comfortably!
2. Waist
Find your natural waistline. This is the narrowest part of your torso, usually located about an inch above your belly button. Wrap the tape around this area, keeping it slightly loose to allow for movement.
3. Hips
Stand with your heels together and measure around the fullest part of your hips and bottom. This ensures the dress will drape beautifully over your curves.
4. Hollow to Floor
This measurement determines the total length of the dress. Stand barefoot and straight. Measure from the hollow space at the base of your neck (between your collarbones) straight down to the floor.
5. Height (Barefoot)
Stand against a flat wall without shoes. Measure from the very top of your head down to the floor.
6. Extra Length (Heel Height)
Since you’ll likely be wearing beautiful shoes with your gown, we need to account for them! In the "Extra Length" field on our website, please enter the height of the heels you plan to wear. This ensures the hemline hits exactly where it should without being too short or causing you to trip.
